YEARROUND CALI

-

For a finish that’s more groomed than grunge, prep hair before tonging by drying it as smoothly as you can, then knock out some body (but not too much) by running one plate of your straighteners (or one side of a curling tong) along the underside of the hair, section by section. Bona fide beach hair (for example, when it drip dries in the sun) is flat at the ends – water travels down from the roots, pulling the tips flat as they dry. So curl mid-lengths only in alternate directions all the way around and let the curl set for five minutes before brushing out into loose waves.

Ask for hand-painted colouring techniques such as balayage (try Headmasters Peek-a-boo Colour or Balayage Boost, from £85), growing progressively lighter from the root and at their most shimmering around eyes, cheekbones and the jawline.
