MIDI CURLS

-

IF YOU’VE GOT CURL Find a stylist experienced in working with curls (Headmasters have a specialist in every salon). If you find a stylist who’ll cut your hair dry, even better – that way, they’ll work with the pattern your curls naturally fall into. Curls love to air-dry but, if time is short, diffuse the blast of your dryer with a fabric ‘sock’. These slip over the nozzle to reduce heat and pressure, and encourage a more natural set than a traditional diffuser (try Hot Sock, £10.99).

Fringes help to avoid the triangular shape curls can fall into, and add to the soft, 1970s feel you see here. IF YOU WANT CURL

To create a modern shape that’s flat at the root, section smoothly blow-dried hair horizontally in two (follow an imaginary line from the top of one ear around the back of the head to the other) and pull the top half into two high ponytails (think Space Buns for positioning – here, Google is your friend). With a small to medium tong, curl the lower half all the way round from root to tip. Curl the top half while still in tails, splitting each one into multiple sections. When cool, release the curls and shake out.
