Tell a STORY

-

People love a good story – it’s the reason we binge listen to true-crime podcasts or sequester ourselves on a sunlounger to race through a Jilly Cooper novel on holiday (just me?). Whether you’re pitching to potential clients or launching a business, if you want to get your point across, wrap it up in a personal story. It’s more interesting to be told a story than to hear facts, whether that’s how you ended up in your current job or the reasons you decided to embark on a new creative project. The next time you’re at an interview and someone asks the question ‘tell me a bit about yourself?’ remember that they’re not asking you to simply recite facts from your CV. What they’re really after is your story – what are your ambitions? What’s motivated the career choices you’ve made so far? What have you learnt from your previous roles? Bear that in mind the next time this question comes up.
