ON INSECURITY

-

Amanda Abbington, actor: ‘As women, I think we often worry too much about what other people think of us, which is so detrimental. We shrink to fit in with someone else’s narrative. I’ve realised I don’t have to do that any more. I feel empowered because I’m finally able to look at myself in the mirror and say, ‘Okay, this is who I am – and if you don’t like it, then you don’t need to be around me.’ Anna Friel, actor: ‘[Now I’m 30 I feel] more grounded and wiser. Before, there was an element of “I don’t deserve it”. Now I don’t waste my time on that negative energy.’ Jennifer Egan, author: ‘I grew up thinking, “You’re either a winner or you’re not”. I presumed I was not. I had no reason to think I would be. I wish I’d known no one was judging my every move.’

TIFFANY R. WARREN, CHIEF DIVERSITY OFFICER, OMNICOM: If I could talk to 23-year-old me, who was mature but quite insecure, I’d say, “You are enough”. It’s powerful.’
