Fashion maven Sarah Rutson on what’s hot this season
Sarah Rutson is making waves in the fashion world. Big ones. With over 20 years’ experience in discovering cool brands and turning them into cult buys at the likes of Net-a-porter, Rutson has now been charged with transforming the demi-luxe fashion world, designing for labels Joie, Equipment, and Current/elliott. Luckily, their easy, understated and perennially cool pieces already tap into the way we – and she – like to dress. ‘I love clothes that have a chameleon-like quality and work really hard,’ Rutson reveals. ‘I start the season by choosing the backbone items to my wardrobe – then add the fun bits later. I do the same when picking bags, shoes and accessories – there’s nothing more limiting than having items that are for specific outfits.’ We asked Rutson to share her favourite pieces and explain why they tap into the mood of the moment.
EQUIPMENT
Equipment is known for its silky shirts, so we’re taking it further with these tailored, soft, wide-leg trousers and shirt. Wear with a black or camel tailored jacket, or go for a loose T-shirt and flat sandals for spring.
CURRENT/ELLIOTT
Military green combined with utility is always a design classic, and for spring 2019, this was also a strong runway trend. At Current/elliott, we wanted to create pieces that you could easily wear to the office – and not just those confined to casualwear.
JOIE
Joie is known for its easy, soft femininity. This dress can be styled with a belted blazer or with a skinny rib knit when it’s cold. It’s an item that can be worn at home, in the office or even at a summer wedding.
