HOW TO FIND YOUR PURPOSE

Eager to change direction, but not sure which way to go? Follow these steps to discover your ‘thing’…

REFLECT

‘We all assign ourselves identities that we never think to question,’ says Fiona Murden. ‘But sit still and really question these assumptions you have.’ For example, you might believe you aren’t creative because you work in finance. Ask yourself, in a non-judgemental way, ‘Why do I think this?’ Is it because someone else told you? Open up your mind to the options available to you – they’re more extensive than you think.

LOOK BACK TO YOUR CHILDHOOD

‘Although we change and evolve as we grow up, our core personality traits remain fairly consistent,’ says Murden. ‘Think about what you used to love most as a child. This will help point you towards your purpose.’ For example, if you loved painting, this could translate into a career in museums or galleries.

UNCOVER YOUR STRENGTHS

Ask yourself, ‘What are you really good at?’ What are the things you can do without even thinking about it? What makes you really animated when you talk about it? ‘Sometimes it helps to ask your loved ones these questions about yourself,’ says Murden. ‘We often think certain qualities are universal, when actually they’re unique to you.’
