Red’s best beauty finds this month

This month I’ve been

LINING my eyes with Lipocils Liner, £22.90, not only for its clean, precise strokes but also its lash-growth stimulating formula; WEARING YSL’S cool and sexy new scent, Libre, £78, which takes inspiration from traditional male fragrances. It’s the tailored tux worn with a pussy-bow shirt (or perhaps nothing underneath); FLUFFING rather than pencilling my brows with Iconic London’s balm-textured Brow Silk, £20. Less Instabrow, more full and feathery.

Not-so-flat matte

Call me old-fashioned, but I think we look fresher when skin looks like skin, so I’ve given the high-coverage, long-wear, super-matte foundations of recent years a swerve, finding they sit heavily, feel drying and look obvious. The new slew of bases is skin-friendly, all with hydrating ingredients and semi-matte velvety finishes. Case in point: Pat Mcgrath Labs Sublime Perfection Foundation, £60, feels soft, nourishes, blurs and illuminates. Sisley Phyto-teint Ultra Éclat, £66, hydrates, has a radiance-boosting complex and a buildable whisper-light finish, while Clarins Everlasting Youth Fluid Foundation SPF15, £35, contains skin-brightening pink micropearls and a soft-focus powder, plus smoothing and firming botanicals. Combining textures helps bring any matte base to life – a cream or gel blusher is a good place to start.

ROAD TEST

Naturally, Hershesons Almost Everything Cream, £10, piqued my interest, as it claims to be pretty much all things to hair except hairspray and shampoo. I found it best for eliminating frizz, both when used pre blow-drying and on dry hair, adding hold and prolonging the life of a blow-dry by a day or so, and as a very lightweight leave-in conditioner. My head has also been turned by IGK Antisocial Overnight Hair Mask, £30, a spray-on dry oil that bonds to natural proteins in the hair fibre, reinforcing it (think less breakage). There’s no need to rinse it out as it doesn’t leave hair feeling lank, but smooth and shiny. A boon for the busy.
