A NEW LIGHT
This couple’s intuition was key to designing the perfect apartment for their creative lives

KITCHEN AND DINING SPACE
The couple renovated their kitchen using cabinetry from Anton’s parent’s house: ‘We simply took their old kitchen, sanded it down and had it repainted,’ explains Linda. They even re-used the tiles and worktops. Spotlights illuminate the worktops and new appliances bring everything up to date. The open-plan dining area is ideal for entertaining, with eight vintage dining chairs around the large farmhouse table. For a decorative touch, the couple chose the monochrome Beata wallpaper by Sandberg. A cabinet, painted green, hosts a display of apothecary bottles, vintage scales and other objects the couple have collected over the years.
SITTING ROOM
The couple decided to paint their living area in vivid white – Loft White by Little Greene is a good match. They have taken advantage of the high ceilings by painting the woodwork and walls in the same colour, and having the wooden floors stained white, too, which makes the room feel bigger. For warmth, Linda chose a combination of moss green, ochre and indigo textiles to accessorise the corner sofa – try Caravane for similar. By fitting two simple white shelves unexpectedly low on the wall the couple have created storage space, as well as an eye-level display of their trinkets and artworks, many of which were bought at flea markets in Paris.
STUDY AREA
In one quiet corner, the couple made a charming space for working by combining antiques with contemporary design. The desk was a flea-market discovery (find similar online at Vinterior) while the shelving, used to store books and display more trinkets, is by the Swedish brand String. Potted plants are dotted throughout the apartment, creating a feeling of serenity that’s echoed here by the room’s white walls. ‘The sun bounces around here, creating light and shadow that changes throughout the day,’ says Linda.
BEDROOM
The couple chose a rich sage green for the walls in their bedroom – try Farrow & Ball’s Calke Green for a shade with similar depth. ‘I’ve always liked green,’ Linda says, ‘as I find it a very restful colour.’ In the centre of the room, the feather pendant light, by Umage, brings a contemporary nuance and a touch of softness. For a similarly elegant bedframe, try And So To Bed. The vintage mirror that hangs above is another discovery by Linda, who always has her eyes open for pieces old and new. When returning home from one trip, laden with discoveries, ‘we were even stopped by customs!’ she laughs.
HALLWAY
The apartment’s narrow hallway was one of the more challenging spaces for the couple to decorate. ‘My first thought was to have bright walls,’ says Linda, ‘but every colour just looked too flat and didn’t feel right.’ Instead, they settled on wallpaper, although Linda admits, ‘This is actually the third design we’ve put up on these walls, but we’re very happy now!’ For a similar botanical motif, try Anna Spiro. Around the doorframe, the couple have assembled a gallery of sketches by various artists, prints from Linda’s home town and pictures taken around Gothenburg. The chair is another vintage find.
