Finding peace

-

Meditating gives you flexibility as well as clarity, says Shetty. ‘Our breath connects with our minds; our souls are uplifted in song; and in the place of energy and unity, we find answers.’ His monk method meditation combines three powerful types of daily practice: breath work, visualisation and chanting. Do it first thing in the morning and last thing at night, starting with 21 minutes, giving yourself seven minutes per section.

TO START

Sit or lie comfortably. Close your eyes. If your mind wanders, softly bring it back to calm, balance, ease, stillness and peace.

1

Become aware of your breath. Breathe in, counting 1-2-3-4, then breathe out to the same count.

2

Next, ask yourself: what am I thankful for today? Visualise a joy-filled memory – in your mind’s eye, think about five things you can see, four things you can touch, three things you can hear, two things you can smell, and one thing you can taste. Take the love from that moment and visualise it flowing throughout your entire body.

3

Then, ask yourself what is my intention for today? Set it now. Repeat the following three times each: I am happy about who I am becoming. I am open to all opportunities and possibilities. I am worthy of real love.

I am ready to serve with all I have.

TO FINISH

Repeat this mantra, ‘Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu’ three times.
