SPOTLIGHT ON REBECCA UDALL

Meet the luxury homebrand founder

-

Established in 2019, homewares company Rebecca Udall comprises a thoughtfully curated selection of European linens for the dining room, bedroom and bathroom alongside artisanal accessories intended to elevate the everyday. The online site is the namesake of founder Rebecca Udall, who was just 25 when she conceptualised her now booming business. ‘Out of university, I worked as a bed and bath linen buyer – a role without which I wouldn’t have started my brand,’ she muses. Before long, Udall found a gap in the market for good-value, fine linens. ‘Creating an agile independent brand would provide me with a great opportunity to showcase an array of designs,’ she explains. Udall’s job as a buyer wasn’t the only factor that influenced her brand’s journey to inception. As a teenager, Udall worked for an events catering company, a role that would go on to shape both the way she laid her own table and the products she sourced for the site. ‘It certainly influenced my interest in table settings. I loved seeing what brides had chosen for their favours, glasses and centrepieces,’ she smiles. The items Udall sources are intrinsically artisanal, celebrating global manufacturers for their quality craftsmanship and heritage charm. The overall aesthetic evokes a timeless, elegant and welcoming appeal – graceful glassware and buttery soft Italian bed linen join rattan accessories and decorative candles on the site. ‘I aspire for it to be luxurious but homely. It’s midway between classic and contemporary – inspired by traditional elements with a fresh feel that won’t date,’ clarifies Udall. ‘I prefer earthy and jewel colours such as olives, burgundy and chocolate brown. And uplifting greens, blues and pinks for the table.’

The future looks bright, as Udall aims to expand the range with more of her own designs. ‘Now that the business has grown, I’m designing a lot more products in-house,’ she explains. ‘There will be new linen designs across bed, bath and table to accompany our much-loved range, but I’ll also be expanding our collection of rattan pieces and introducing a range of etched glassware. Excitingly, I have two linen collaborations launching imminently, which have been in development for a long time!’

And what about her own home? ‘My boyfriend and I live in North Yorkshire, where we’re currently renovating a 1920s cottage. I’ll be decorating the house with earthy tones and lots of natural textures. I adore the interior design firm Turner Pocock and love combining antique furniture with classic and contemporary pieces. I also love Susan Deliss’s limited-edition designs and have a great selection of vases from Flowerbx. Creative studio Jamjar Edit sells some fabulous original pressed flower artwork, too.’
