SPOTLIGHT ON MÍE
The resortwear label that ticks all the boxes
Having moved to Paris from her home town of Lagos, Nigeria, Damie Idowu completed her MBA in fashion business with one thing on her mind: ‘I knew I wanted my own brand and that it had to be conscious in its approach. I was drawn to that lifestyle; I viewed everything through a sustainable lens.’ From this uncompromising philosophy, in 2018, Míe was born.
The beauty is in the detail at Míe. Playful puff sleeves, smocked waists and kiss pleats elevate these minimalist linen separates. The off-the-shoulder Tarifa dress (below left), Symi slim maxi slip and Faro lightweight shirt dress (right) are just a few of its hero pieces – and it doesn’t stop there. There are also sleek tops, simple shorts and billowing trousers, all in a palette of black, white and blush, with pops of bright yellow and red.
Versatile and elegant, these pieces will take you from a British summer’s day to, one day, sunsets on a tropical beach. Idowu is now based in Lagos, where each garment is lovingly handmade from start to finish by one seamstress. Planet-friendly, these pieces are made with natural materials and biodegradable fabrics that are both breathable and functional. Next up? Treasure by Míe: a home accessories range launching this summer, starting with carafes and cups made from recycled glass. Idowu describes the style as ‘100% about effortlessness; a nice blend of beauty and functionality.’ Míe is this to a tee.
