Furnishing for the future
For enduring style and comfort in your home, choose expertly crafted designs and sustainable materials
Updating your furniture is one of the most exciting ways to transform a room, and the right piece can define the space for years to come. Whether it’s elegant seating, a classic piece of solid-oak furniture or iconic lighting, good design is timeless.
When considering how to create a home that’s fit for the future, many of us are also looking to minimise our impact upon the environment, opting for pieces that use recycled fabrics, reduced levels of plastic and responsibly sourced, chemical-free timber. The good news is you don’t have to choose style over substance – classic design and sustainability can go hand in hand.
STYLE
The Grand Designs Collection at DFS offers a range of styles, from the striking, architectural Kent and the contemporary, indulgently proportioned Farnham to the mid-century-inspired Edinburgh and the sumptuous Tenby, with its elegant detailing and smart finishing. Each is available in a number of sizes and configurations, from corner sofas to cosy armchairs.
SHADE
To ensure your interior is future-friendly, bypass the trends and take your colour cues from nature instead. Sunny yellow hues, watery blue-grey tones and botanical greens are all enduring shades that will reflect your eco-friendly focus.
Paints, from top: SUDBURY YELLOW, £49.50, Farrow & Ball; GREY STONE, £48.50, Little Greene; POMONA, £49.50, Edward Bulmer, all for 2.5L standard matt emulsion
SUSTAINABILITY
The Grand Designs Collection at DFS is built to last, using sustainably sourced frames, recycled polyester yarns and 100% reusable steel springs. The seat cushion fillings are made with 50% recycled material from Plastic Bank, a global group tackling plastic waste in our oceans.
