SOCKS, HUGS & ROCK & ROLL

Andy and the Odd Socks are ready to hit the road with inclusive musical message

- JANET TANSLEY Family Time Correspondent

CBBC faves Andy and the Odd Socks have leapt straight from the telly and onto the stage for their energetic new ‘Are You Ready To Rock’ UK tour.

The band are bringing their brilliant madcap mix of songs, slapstick and silliness to life with a show they reckon will entertain families of every age.

Since their first live gig at Glastonbury in 2017, the famous five – children’s TV star Andy and Moxy, Rio, Blu, and Cousin Mac – have become well-known for their hilarious and uplifting performances that not only have songs for everyone to sing along to, but also have a positive message, to be yourself and be proud of who you are.

We caught up with Andy to ask him more about the tour and what makes him tick…

What’s it like going from a TV show to performing live on stage?

The two are very different, but equally rewarding. On TV you’re contained and smaller, but when you’re live, the energy of the audience is incredible and playing live instruments and singing our songs to a crowd is the best! But we get a buzz from both.

Would you categorise yourself as more TV presenter or a musician?

I would say a performer.

I present, I sing and act, it all comes under the umbrella of performance.

What can we expect from the tour?

Songs from the TV show, Odd Socks classics, and a lot of energy and audience participation.

They will certainly be on their feet.

How do your gigs differ from others?

Our shows are the best of both worlds, a little theatre and a lot of rock. There’ll be more screen interaction, an engaging storyline, and a lot of rocking out from parents and kids.

How important is an overall message on TV or in concert?

It’s important to us that the Odd Socks keeps true to its ambition, which is making the audience laugh, getting everyone up dancing and singing, and inspiring kids to want to play an instrument – and that to be an Odd Sock is to be proud of who you are.
