Winter Games 1985

Epyx is rightly worshipped on the C64 for its sports simulation­s, and many cite 1985’s Winter Games as the best of its output. The events are predictabl­e, but they’re polished and huge fun.

Thin Ice 1986

This Intellivis­ion game was codesigned by the late Keith Robinson. The player controls a crafty penguin who’s determined to land his fellow penguins into the water by skating around them.

Winter Wonderland 1987

This snow-bound game begins with a plane crash and contains many evocative images of the eponymous location. Mind the thin ice!

Icewind Dale 1998

An Infinity Engine stopgap between Baldur’s Gate adventures, this RPG still has a legion of fans thanks to its no-nonsense dungeoneei­ng and the ability to create your party from scratch.
