Stages of evolution: Collectible objects
From lock-and-key puzzles to reloading weapons to multiple power-ups
Equinox
You can’t get far in Equinox without collecting objects, as it defines the game’s core objectives. Besides radioactive canisters that have to be deposited in disposal chutes, there are transporter credits and level passes. The game also has lock-and-key puzzles, where you have to find suitable objects to overcome obstacles.
Exolon
There are technically four pick-ups in Exolon, although its doublebarrelled blaster comes with the game’s titular exoskeleton armour. The game’s remaining collectibles are ammo for its standard blaster and rockets for its rocket launcher, which you really have to work for since they’re always located behind enemy lines.
Cybernoid
Amassing weapons and shields is important in
Cybernoid, and the game’s secondary objective also revolves around collecting. The goal is to recover a set amount of jewels and valuable minerals from your opponents on each level, which requires a hell of a lot of blasting and scooping up of stash, and it’s all against the clock.
