FATADDICK: Are you and Charlene still together?

Romantically, I’m afraid not. She was one who slipped through the fingers! I’m still good friends with the lovely Sarah Phillys, who played my girlfriend Charlene. She’s very happily married and has a wonderful family.

SHINOBI: Was it true that The Executioner (Videator Gary Harrod) wore the mask because he was very shy?

Yes it was! He was a bit of a hero of mine – back then, videogame journalists like Gary were our Pewdiepies. I was in awe! Gary loved his job and was an incredible gamer but he really didn’t like the cameras. They made the genius move of putting him in a mask so he could hide.

ERIC: How are your EA Hockey skills today?

[Laughs]. On ‘Beat The Elite’, the contestant hit a button with a mallet and it was supposed to be random which Videator they had to face – but it can’t be because you need them all ready for filming! As soon as they announced which game they would be playing, you just knew which Videator it would land on, and if it was EA Hockey or Sonic you knew you were about to get some Big Boy! I loved EA Hockey and still think it’s never been bettered… and I’m confident I can take down any of your readers.

MERMAN: Have you ever had to do PR for a game you hated?

Absolutely. That’s part of the job. Hated, though, probably not – we get loads of emails daily from people asking us to do PR and if we think their game is dire, we will be honest and say we don’t think it’s going to succeed whatever we do. And we’ve turned stuff down when it has a dubious moral sensibility. There was this ‘seduction’ game and we just didn’t want to be associated with it.
