Back in 1999, this Neo Geo Pocket Color game was one of the best handheld fighters on the market. While times have moved on, the cute, expressive sprites and perfectly implemented control scheme ensure that it’s still a joy to play. The game is essentially a demake of The King Of Fighters 98, with techniques intact but fewer characters to choose from. What makes it worth picking up is the ‘Making’ mode, where you can customise your character with extra skills. The only downer is that without the Dreamcast link mode, some of those skills are unobtainable – though given how rarely used the original link cable was, most players would hardly notice.
