Mastering Mansell

THESE TIPS ARE ENOUGH TO MAKE EVEN MANSELL ENVIOUS

-

QUALIFY FIRST

■ Although it is possible to zoom from twelfth place into first, trying to qualify for each of the races can put you in a much better position on the grid. You may find that your car is not accelerating as fast as your opponents’ so grab the advantage.

ANTICIPATE THE CORNER

■ If you seek Mansell’s advice, then you’ll be told the ideal speed to take each corner. But, in general, you should be easing up before you reach a turn and accelerating towards the end of the corner. That way you are less likely to become a cropper.

LEARN THE COURSES

■ The more familiar you are with the courses, the better you’ll be at anticipating the twists and turns. But another way of keeping one step ahead is to glance at the course pictured at the top of the screen where you’ll also see your opponents’ positions.

GET EXTRA SPEED

■ If you want to go faster, then you need to choose a low aerofoil but be warned that you may then struggle to handle the car. There’s always a trade off between handling and speed so maybe go for broke only when you feel you’ve got a grips on the controls.

GO FOR AUTO

■ You can choose manual transmission for faster acceleration but if you opt for auto then it means you’re not having to think too much about yet another button press. In truth, the margins between manual and auto are small enough to take the easier ride.

CHECK YOUR TYRES

■ These four icons indicate how worn your tyres are – the fewer icons there are here, the more worn the tyres are. In general, you don’t really have to pay much attention to them but when it starts to rain, you must consider a pit stop to finish in style.
