What games did you never play to completion?

I abandoned Project Zero on the original Xbox part way through. That’s because one of the puzzles glitched and no matter how many times you did it right, it wouldn’t progress the game. I still don’t know how the game ends.

The Last of Us. I’ve tried several times to get into it, but the characters are so unlikable and the gameplay so generic that after the brilliant intro the rest of the game just isn’t interesting enough to finish. [A pity, I think it’s incredible - Ed]

Stubbs The Zombie. I was having great fun with it until you got to the bit where it turned into a third-person shooter, then it got fiddly and annoying. Not sure if I’ll go back, just so many games to play and I’ve got to the age where I no longer want to waste time on ones that bug me.

I abandoned The Legend Of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass fairly quickly when I couldn’t work out how to blow out the candles. It was months later I worked out my DS microphone didn’t work. I will not be returning to it as it’s not very good.

The Lost Retro Tapes

Anything with forced stealth in a non-stealth game. Bully, Call Of Duty (the latest one), the newish Tomb Raider all spring to mind. I did come back to Spider-man and the Mary Jane sections and was glad I did, although I wish I could’ve skipped them.

So much stuff due to getting hopelessly stuck, but a famous one is Kingdom Hearts II. I got stuck on Demyx for ages. I still go back and try it but he always beats me!

Tama Hero

I love Moon Remix RPG but I’m a completionist. There’s one guy you can only get by winning the fishing contest. I set myself up to grind to get him but found it so tedious I never finished. But I couldn’t bring myself to decide to move on without him. So I just never played again.

On my original Xbox I abandoned Ninja Gaiden. I reached a point where it was so punishingly difficult for me that I rage quit and didn’t come back for six months. And of course I got past the bit I was stuck on almost immediately and finished the game that very weekend. Just typical.

I put down Silent Hill 2 at a save point in the spooky hospital. I never booted the game up again, because the idea of being in that hospital again genuinely terrified me.

PC gun exploitation game, Soldier Of Fortune back in the big box days gave me terrible motion sickness and I had to abandon it a couple of levels in, which was a shame as I was enjoying its over-the-top gun physics.
