BARGAIN HUNT
Your guide to the rising world of retro prices
THE COVER STAR WIPEOUT PULSE/WIPEOUT PURE
Wipeout Pulse, which graces our newsstand cover is available on PSP from £3, with prices hitting £15 for a sealed copy. The PS2 version can hit £70. Wipeout Pure (our subs cover) is a lot cheaper and rarely sells beyond the £5 mark on PSP.
RESCUE MISSION
This tough PAL Master System game can be found complete for under £9. It’s even cheaper if you’re happy with just a cart.
PROFESSIONAL SKI SIMULATOR
The 8-bit versions of Codemasters’ game rarely exceed £3. There is a variant of the Amiga version commanding a price of £72, but we’ve seen no recorded sales for months, so make of that what you will.
TEMPEST 2000
Darran purchased this in May 2021 for £26. The PAL copy (which is thankfully unoptimised) now ranges between £40 and £71 depending on condition. The US version regularly hits £130 before shipping.
RED FACTION
The PC version of this destructive first-person shooter regularly sells between £1 and £5. The Playstation version is also cheap, typically selling for no more than £3. Red Faction also made it to the N-gage, and its rarity means you’ll pay up to £17 for it.
PAC-MAN CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION
Namco’s excellent update is readily available on digital Xbox stores for £6.75. If you really need a physical release you can get Namco Museum Virtual Arcade from £5 to £23. Just be mindful that Pac-man CE is not actually included on the disc itself (it’s bafflingly a download only).
THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: THE WIND WAKER
While many Zelda games can now fetch hundreds of pounds, your favourite Gamecube game remains relatively cheap with copies selling between £20 and £60 (that higher price gets you the version with Ocarina Of Time and Ura Zelda). The Wii U version hits £30 for a normal copy and £140 for the limited edition.
THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: MAJORA’S MASK
This is a classic example of demand driving prices. In the US complete versions of Majora’s Mask rarely pass $200 (£153) as it’s fairly plentiful. When US copies turn up in the UK it whips collectors like Darran into a frenzy. The last copy saw eight buyers push the final price to £410!
