Parts and servicing

Service schedule

Servicing is based on 6000-mile intervals. Interim services include a fair bit of proper work – oil and filter, spark plug checks, fault code check, throttle body balancing (don’t neglect this) and head bearing adjustment, for example. Main 12,000-mile services include valve clearances, change of plugs, new air filter, new coolant, new brake fluid, and grease for steering and rear wheel bearings (again, don’t neglect this). Fork oil and all fuel and emissions hoses are to be changed at 24,000 miles.

Working on the Speed Triple is no problem access is pretty good and there’s not a lot of bodywork in the way. There are a few special tools involved though. Marque specialist Clive Wood runs courses on servicing to Triumph standards - well worth the investment. Contact him on clivejlracing@aol.com.

New and used parts prices

The Speed Triple has been around in more or less the same form for so long – and shared so many parts with other models – that parts supply is excellent. The frame on all Speed Triples until 2011 was exactly the same as the 1997 T595 Daytona, while the engine’s basically the same as the older 955i motor. So an oil filter is just £10.48 and an air filter £29.14. Front brake pads are £46.92 per caliper, with discs £191.32. A genuine chain and sprocket kit is a £157.50. Pattern parts offer big savings. Wemoto (www.wemoto.com) do wheel bearings for £8.99 a pair, and head bearings from £19.20, front brake pads from £17.39 a caliper and oil filters from £5.28. We’ve seen silencers for less than £20 on ebay, but it’s always worth trying a specialist first to make sure you’re getting the right part - try www. triumph-ant.co.uk.
