Yamaha MT-07

RiDE (UK) - - Long Term Test - MARTIN FITZ-GIBBONS

IN A NUTSHELL, here’s every MT-07 review I’ve written for RIDE: rambunctious engine, colossal fun, crap suspension. So it was promising to hear Yamaha has stiffened the 2018 bike and reassuring to read Bruce give it the thumbs-up in this month’s RIDE Road Test (p70).

The improvement indeed proves night-and-day obvious — on my first ride I can tell there’s more control before I’ve left the office car park. But after our first 100 miles together, I reckon it could still do with even more damping.

The new shock has a rebound adjuster, set halfway through its three-turn range. I add half a turn and hit the backroads again. Better. Add another half a turn. Even better. I’m saving the final half-turn for summer…

Barely on the second tank of juice and MFG’S ‘adjusting’ SPEC YAMAHA MT-07 £6492 • 689cc parallel twin, l/c • 74bhp • 182kg • 14-litre tank • 805mm seat • Average economy: 50.5mpg • Miles so far: 211
