Pillion

Though that deeply padded bench seat looks plenty spacious enough for two, our pillion reports that space is a bit limited as, even during steady cruising, their chest ends up pressed against the rider’s back and helmets seems to clash with every input to the brakes. The hidden underseat grab rails are a nice touch — a clever way of giving the pillion something to grab hold of without corrupting the Scrambler’s back-end styling. Or at least they would’ve been clever if they actually worked. But the grab handles are too shallow to hold so passengers can only just get fingertips into the underseat recesses, resulting in a less-than secure place to hang on to.

Luggage and load

Though the RIDE tailpack wraps around the one-piece seat with ease to give the luggage a solid primary anchor, there’s a real lack of bungee points which make using a traditional tailpack on the Scrambler quite difficult. The rear bungee cords have no dedicated hooks, but do securely fit around the extended metal rear light bracket and just about keep out of the way of the hot exhaust gases. However, the front bungees have no dedicated points to hook into; if you were desperate, you could hook the left-hand side strap on the top of the rear shock mounting point, and the right-hand side on to an exposed subframe casting. Neither of these points are ideal and the tailpack doesn’t feel as secure as it should.
