Weise Corsa RS trousers £179.99

- JIM BLACKSTOCK

www.weise.co.uk DESIGNED TO COMPLEMENT the Corsa RS jacket, the jeans are made in the same leather with plenty of stretch panels to ensure a snug and comfortable fit. Ce-approved knee armour is included while hips make do with just padding (proper armour is extra). The trousers use a double-popper and Velcro fly fastening, have a mesh lining and a handy zipped front pocket. Knee sliders are included as well.

Getting the right size for me was harder than the jacket; I actually had to go smaller than normal. However, they fit so well that they don’t fall down when worn on their own.

Off the bike they’re inevitably baggy and clumsy, but not to the point where they are cumbersome or unwieldy. However, on the bike they instantly align themselves with the café-racer riding position and feel excellent. The knee armour is in exactly the right place and doesn’t move, which is important. There are perforated sections on the thighs and these allow some air in to stop things getting too sweaty, though a little is inevitable.

You could easily use either the jacket or jeans in isolation and indeed, both work very well in that context. But pair them up and you get a great-value, well-fitting and reassuringly robust leather suit for the road or the track. And at the Café Racer Cup, I reckon that was worth around five seconds a lap…
