QI’m fairly new to biking and I’m not sure what’s wrong with my bike, but every time I brake there seems to be a knocking coming from the handlebars and the bike feels a bit ‘loose’. What could it be?

AWe suspect that your head bearings are loose. The front end pivots on a set of bearings in the headstock at the front of the frame. These ball bearings are clamped into position by collars secured by a thread on the steering stem. These gradually loosen up with riding, creating the knocking sensation that you’re feeling and need adjusting.

QMy annual mileage on my Ducati Monster 1100 is very low and I never hit the service intervals for my bike. Is it really worth getting it serviced every year on the button?

AYes, it really is. Firstly, motorcycles that are stored for a long time can generate condensation inside the engine, which can go on and contaminate the oil, meaning regular changing is necessary. Secondly, your cambelts deteriorate with age, and this actually accelerates when they’re kept in one position. Thirdly, an annual service is a good time to check over the bike and see if anything is loose or any other areas need attention.

QI’m looking at buying the new KTM 790 Adventure which I believe is going to be about £11,100. However, there are some excellent deals on the KTM 1090 Adventure, with some new bikes available for £8,999 and I won’t have to wait for delivery. What would you advise that I do?

AWe saw the same ad online for the 1090 and were tempted too. The 1090 is an excellent adventure bike and at this price, is seriously good value for money. It is also more powerful than the 790 with proven off-road and distance potential.
