Members of our mile-clocking club have big plans for 2019

-

WE’VE TEAMED UP with the #ride5000miles campaign to encourage RIDE readers to go further than ever in 2019. And members of the mile-clocking club are already planning for this year to the best ever.

In the last two years, more than 8000 British bikers have taken up the 5000-mile challenge and hundreds more have signed-up in the last few weeks, to mark the start of the new year with the aim of getting the most out of their bike.

Being a member of R5K works best if you have a target or a plan for the year ahead, with milestones you can hit. It could be simply pledging to commute more on your bike, or a sundrenched trackday in a foreign land. But for many, the dream is a big tour or road-trip that they’ve always wanted to do and the R5K Facebook group has been full of New Year resolutions, plans and ambitions.

When it comes to help, information and inspiration, the #ride5000miles Facebook site is a very useful resource. “It has really helped many of us bikers,” says RIDE’S Matt Wildee. “The Facebook group is a wonderful support network for all bikers and though I do more than 5000 miles a year, it’s been a great place to discover new places to ride and has a great sense of community that’s lacking in many forms of social media.”

“Joining #ride5000miles has made clocking-up distances easier,” says Rachel Ives. “It’s a great group when you need route or hotel recommendations. I also find the posts about touring inspirational, and I keep adding to my bucket list.”
