Make 2019 your best biking year yet

Sign up to #ride5000miles and get more out of biking

ALMOST 9000 BIKERS in total have now signed up for our mileage challenge, full of plans and excitement for the new biking year, with nearly 1000 just since Christmas. The past two years have seen thousands of mile-hungry bikers take the 5000-mile challenge and join the Facebook community that is at the heart of it.

R5K is about riding yourself happy: the whole idea is to use the target of hitting 5000 miles as an excuse to ride your bike more. By pledging to hit 5000 miles it means that you might simply use your bike more for commuting, come up with new ways to ride your bike or make more of an effort to not miss a Sunday blast.

Some members have already started piling on the miles, making the best of the bad weather and smiling through adversity but for some RIDE readers, it means planning for that trip that they’ve always wanted to do, but never have. One such inspired reader is Roksana Keilkowska, who is planning the trip of a lifetime on her Honda Fireblade. An extreme tourer, her recommendations were featured in last month’s travel guide, but now she has even bigger plans.

“I’m heading around the world on my 20-year-old Blade! The plan is to set off in April. Head east to Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan etc, Himalayas, Nepal, Thailand, Laos then to Australia and finally from South to North America! Or from North America to South; haven’t decided yet. Planning to be back home in October but who knows!” We can all use #ride5000miles to help chase our biking dreams.
