Q How well is it made?
1 Engine
Ducati is showing huge confidence in this new V4 Granturismo motor. Oil changes every-other year and valveclearance checks every 36,000 miles, with a four-year warranty? That’s a bold mix; braver than all its rivals and should be applauded. It’s either a company with enormous faith in its engineering, or it has a big pot of cash for future claims…
2 Details
Push/pull screen height adjuster is elegantly simple. Heated grips are hot enough to use ‘Low’ on a 5°C day. Mirrors are great size, shape and position. Tank-mounted phone cubbyhole with USB socket looks neat but larger handsets (Samsung S9+) are a squeeze. One DIN 12V socket on the dash; a second (less-usefully) under the pillion seat. Switchgear is backlit. Front mudguard is too short to stop road muck covering the front cylinders.
3 Finish
Bodywork is made up of a large number of plastic panels, clips and screws, which looks fiddly to strip. Otherwise, the Multistrada feels nicely put together and generally seems to be made of high-quality parts. Perhaps the top-yoke finish isn’t the prettiest, if we’re being ultra-picky. There are loads of nooks, crannies and awkward surfaces that trap dirt after a short ride in bad weather, let alone an off-road jaunt.
