Polycarbonate shell Removable lining SHARP Rating 4/5 www.ghostbikes.com

IN THE SHOWROOM

The Agrius range is incredible value before you even think about putting it on your head; £44.99 for a four-star Sharp-rated lid with a sporty design, drop-down sun visor, a quoted weight of 1450g (actual weight 1582g), removable lining and an ACU sticker! Its polycarbonate shell means it feels fairly light and, despite some dubious faux-carbon graphics, it seems well made — the lining is surprisingly plush, it’s got a chin and two top vents as well as two exhaust ones on the back and comes with a chin curtain and a breath guard. The website quotes an SRP of £89.99 but in reality, it is one of Ghostbikes’ own brands and the company keeps the price at £44.99.

ON THE ROAD

The first issue I noticed was the helmet’s visor misting. There was fogging in the corner moving towards the centre within a few minutes and despite having all the vents open, it continued to grow. I had to stop three times on the 2.5-hour wet ride to remove the visor, dry it and refit it all again, having checked the insert was fitted correctly each time. It seemed ventilation was the Agrius’ weak point — it was almost impossible to tell if the chin vent was open or closed (hence the misting) and the top vents were difficult to operate in gloves hands. It’s sporty design also meant a high neck and the back for the tucked-in, looking-up sports riding position to it was a little draughty for an upright tourer.
