THE CLAIM

“Tourmodular has obtained ECE

2206 homologation and is the result of the AGV EXTREME SAFETY manufacturing protocol. The helmet’s unique structure in carbon, aramid fibre and fibreglass guarantees both solidity and lightness. The metal visor mechanisms are designed to maximize both field of vision and protection area; the optical class 1 visor is up to 4 mm thick for superior protection. The AGV Micro-opening system allows you to keep the visor open for airflow while it is securely attached to the chinguard”

THE REALITY

We loved AGV’S Sportmodular, a sports-style flip-front and while the new Tourmodular is more aimed at touring riders, it is just as impressive. Initially, it seems large — a function of being a spacious flip-front; however, it’s not too heavy. Our medium test example weighs in at 1699g, which isn’t bad for a flip.

I did 1000 miles over three days straight out of the box and found it extremely comfortable right away. It cossets my head reassuringly with no tight areas, pinching or squeezing. The lining is plush and absorbent and feels lovely against the cheeks.

It is dual homologated so you can ride with the chinbar up, if that’s your thing. I prefer not to but the second latching position holds it open.

With the chin bar closed, the visor aperture is vast; vision is exceptionally clear through the class-1 visor and you barely have to move your head for shoulder checks. The drop-down sun visor is a neutral colour and while it leaves a strip at the bottom unprotected, it is dark enough to help with all but the brightest direct sunlight.

Ventilation is excellent; the main chin vent feels a little flimsy, is tricky to find and open, then too easy to accidentally close but it is effective. It is flanked by two vertical vents which are even better than the chin one and the visor has a lock to prevent unexpected opening and to maintain a gap for loads of air flow.

It’s stable in use and the head doesn’t get dragged around though there is a degree of reluctance to return to the straight-ahead after shoulder checks. It’s not especially loud but turbulence from a screen can cause lowfrequency rumbles which become a little tiring.

Like the Sportmodular, it doesn’t instantly look like a flip, but offers the convenience with a sporty look and feel. And combined with excellent performance, it’s a very good helmet.
