‘Lightweight, versatile and useful luggage’

- JIM BLACKSTOCK

Made from ABS plastic, the boxes are lightweight (4.1kg large, 3.9kg small, with locks) and fit to the Sw-motech Pro side carriers or rear Adventure rack. The large is 41-litre capacity and the small 33 litres, and the (bike-specific) carriers are designed to clear the exhaust and equalise the width across the bike.

Fitting the PRO Side carriers is easy – online downloadable instructions are clear and quality is, as you would expect, superb. The carriers are easily removable, by removing one of the locking adapters by hand then using a large screwdriver to release the three remaining connectors.

In use, the cases are light – and feel it – but have a sturdy air about them and a purposeful look and feel; somewhere between round-the-world adventurer and weekend traveller. The lids have brackets on the outside to lash light objects to, as well as internal hooks. They fit and remove from the carriers very easily, aided by the twin side handles, and the locks feel solid and are easy to use, although it’s tricky to insert the key in the left-hand side carrier locking adapter.

All the cases state a load limit of 10kg and a maximum speed of 80mph. The weatherproofing seals stood up to a test blast with a pressure washer and we fully expect them to be waterproof in use - we’ll report back on that later.

Fitted to a KTM 790 Adventure, they sit at 1080mm wide – the same as the OE Touring panniers, though the DUSCS’ squarer profile adds an average 20% carrying volume.

It will be interesting to see how the luggage copes over a longer time and distance.
