Tributes to victim of motorway tragedy
TRIBUTES have been paid to a dad who died in a horror crash on the M62.
Dad-of-one Darren Walmsley, 51, from Milnrow, was killed in a seven-vehicle accident on July 4 near junction 21 for Milnrow.
His Mercedes car travelling on the eastbound carriageway heading towards Yorkshire - was involved in a collision with a HGV at 9.30am. The car then went through the central reservation onto the westbound carriageway and collided with another car and two HGVs.
Mr Walmsley was pronounced dead at the scene. A man and a woman who were travelling in one of the other vehicles were taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.
Paying tribute to him, the family said: “Darren was a quiet, shy and unassuming man who was happiest in the company of his family and friends.
“He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife of 25 years, Noreen, and a caring and proud father to his beloved daughter Melanie. His father John raised Darren and younger brother David when their mother passed away at an early age, making them a tight, supportive family unit.
“He was always willing to help those close to him and found time to do favours for anyone who needed them. Those who spent time with him found Darren to be good company, quick to smile and laugh. He will be sorely missed.”
