ADISABLED girl has been forced to sleep in the same room as her mum because her bedroom is riddled with mould.

Helen Percy says her daughter Shelby’s room is damp and uninhabitable.

The problems got so bad a hole appeared in the ceiling and wall paper peeled off.

Shelby, 12, who has hydrocephalus which causes a build up of fluid on the brain, epilepsy and slight mobility problems, is now sleeping in her mum’s room in the twobedroom semi-detached house in Elm Grove, Wardle. Mrs Percy said: “It is very frustrating - the damp is very bad

“She is nearly 13, you can’t expect a 13-year-old to be sleeping in the same room as her mum.

“It’s very unsettling for her.”

“They moved us into the house knowing we have a disabled little girl, we should have been a higher priority.”

Workmen from landlords Rochdale Boroughwide Housing have replastered the worst affected areas, but Mrs Percy says she has been told it could take up to 12 months to repair the problem fully, and says she has now contacted a solicitor to try resolve the problems.

Mrs Percy added: “They need to come out and get the work done effectively and preferably before Christmas, instead of saying they will fix it in 12 months.

“I think if I had left her in that room any longer it would have made her ill and she would have had to go to hospital.”

In a statement RBH said: “We appreciate the impact that this problem is having on this family, and we want to make sure that we complete this repair as quickly as possible.

“We are currently in discussions with the tenant in order to try and agree access to the home to the complete the outstanding works.”
