Well to be dug in Syria war zone as tribute to stab victim
THE legacy of a young man who would ‘do anything for anyone’ is to live on in Syria.
A well is being dug in the war-torn country in memory of Akbar Masood, 22, of Heybrook, who was stabbed to death in Wardleworth earlier this month.
Akbar’s friends launched an appeal for donations in his memory to help support civilians affected by the ongoing conflict.
Within just 24 hours, £2,500 was raised, allowing the group to fund the memorial through humanitarian charity SKT Welfare.
Tanveer Zahoor, 20, of Wardleworth, who set up the campaign, said: “We wanted to do something that would reflect his kindness. He was a really thoughtful person who always thought of others and would do anything for anyone.
“This was an important cause to him and it is a testament to his character that so much money was raised such a short time.”
It is hoped the well will be in place in the coming weeks, along with a plaque remembering Akbar.
