Pupils pay their respects to fallen

-

YOUNGSTERS from Beech House school paid their respects on Armistice Day.

Pupils from Years 1 and 2 walked to the town centre memorial to join dignitaries, councillors, veterans and the public who observed a two minute silence in memory of the town’s war dead.

A school spokesperson said: “After a slippy walk down through the park we arrived at the war memorial just before 11am where we then waited for the service to start and the two minute silence. We all stood very still to pay our respects. Haydar Shahzad and Jamine Salaman then went to lay the poppy wreaths we had made on the memorial.

“When the service had finished we waited to speak with the Mayor of Rochdale who thanked us for attending.

“We then made the trip back up the hill through the park to be back in time for lunch.”
