FOOTBALL fans often complain about being priced out of the game. And with tickets at City and United going for anywhere up to £58 it’s easy to see why.

But next week you could watch a Greater Manchester team enjoying the most successful spell in its history for just a quid.

All tickets for Tuesday night’s Rochdale versus Port Vale match at the Crown Oil Arena are on sale for £1.

The remarkable deal also applies to away fans.

And with the club, which has an average gate of about 2,500, flying high in League One under the stewardship of club legend Keith Hill, Dale chief exec Russ Green is hoping for a bumper crowd.

He said: “We were encouraged by the response when we implemented ticket initiatives over the Christmas period.

“Tuesday night fixtures are notoriously not very well attended so we’ve targeted this game to see what sort of potential is out there.

“We’re looking at launching a season ticket initiative in the summer which would be quite attractive, and we want to know what actual potential there is for the possible sale of season tickets next season.

“This will give us a guideline as to how many people would like to come along if the price is right. ●●Dale manager Keith Hill has the club riding high in League One and club bosses are hoping this plus the £1 deal will bring in a bumper crowd

“With 15 league games left to play this season, we want the people of Rochdale to come and see what type of football we play here at the Crown Oil Arena.

“When the crowd supports the team, the team reacts, and that’s what we need now as we enter into a crucial part of the season.

“Supporters can help by getting behind the players, and we hope we can have a packed ground on Tuesday night to cheers us on to victory.”

The club is asking supporters to buy tickets in advance where possible to avoid queues at the turnstiles on the night.

Refunds are also being offered to fans who have already bought a full prove ticket.
