Happy days as Rehman beats Fonz

-

ROCHDALE boxer Bilal Rehman continued the perfect start to his professional career after a dominant points victory on Saturday.

The 24-year-old defeated Fonz Alexander 60-54 after six rounds at the Victoria Warehouse in Manchester.

It sees Rehman extend his record to 7-0 with two stoppages, having won all of his fights since he made his debut back in September 2015. He was delighted with the win, and is now hoping to kick on from here and continue impressing.

“I felt great out there in the ring and it was good to get a solid six rounds under my belt,” said Rehman.

“I had an operation in my nose recently that has helped my breathing and I could really tell the difference, I felt fine after doing the six rounds.

“I had a short camp for the fight but it didn’t make a difference and I got the win, so I’m really happy.

“I’m maybe hoping to get back out in April so it will be another quick turnaround which is good.”

Rehman was competing on a packed bill, which also saw Liam Taylor make a winning return to the ring after 15 months out.

Taylor hadn’t fought since November 2015, but returned with a dominant eight round points win over Angel Emilov.

It means that the 26-year-old has now won 14 of his 15 fights, with his only defeat coming when he took an extremely short notice fight to current British light-welterweight champion Tyrone Nurse.

Saturday also saw light heavyweight Charlie Schofield move to 9-0 with a points win over Georgi Valevski, while Anthony Leak impressed with a second round stoppage win of Teodor Lozanov.

The likes of Jordan Latimer, Arthif Daniel, Lee Oldham, John Telford, Luke Evans, Marc Leach and Omar Dusary all picked up wins too.
