‘Double death in house not suspicious’ – police
THE deaths of a man and woman at a house in Castleton are not being treated as suspicious.
Police said a 50-yearold man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has now been released without charge.
Officers were called to a house on Alder Road at around 3pm on Monday after reports a woman, thought to be in her 30s, was found unconscious inside.
She was taken to hospi- tal but pronounced dead.
Police said a post-mortem examination has concluded there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.
Two days earlier, on Saturday, February 25 at 3pm, police were called to the same property following reports that a man had died inside.
Neighbours say emergency services were called to the end terrace on Saturday afternoon and paramedics were seen performing CPR on the man, who appeared to have suffered head injuries, as he was carried to an ambulance by stretcher.
Police said that investigations have also ruled out suspicious circumstances.
Witnesses said the same neighbour tried to revive both the man and woman on the separate occasions.
Residents said forensics officers were in the house until late on Saturday and again on Sunday, following the man’s death, before emergency services were called to the scene again at about 2.55pm on Monday after the discovery of the woman’s body.
Neighbours say the woman lived alone until a few months ago when two brothers, one thought to be her partner, moved in with her.
Det Insp Chris Mannion, from Rochdale CID, said: “As our enquiries have continued, we have determined that there are no suspicious circumstances.
“I’d like to thank the public for their patience.”
