Sofia off to flier on debut as club revives

LAST Saturday was the third instalment in the Manchester & District Junior 10 mile Time Trial Championsh­ips. The event was held on the J2/3 again, based around Twemlow and Chelford Island. The weather was warm and condusive to fast times and all the riders were in good spirits.

For the first time in years the East Lancs fielded a Juvenile girls team and first off for the team was a Sofia Riley who was making her time trial debut. Sofia was an absolute beginner who trained last year with the club and made a very promising start by recording 32:41 mins; she was followed by Niamh Coulter who recorded her personal best on a Cheshire course of 30:28 mins; and then Nicole Decamps who recorded 33:32 mins. The boys followed next with the following results, Noah Codling recorded his best this year of 26:52 mins; Max Bentley recorded 28:50 mins; Patrick Cooke recorded 28:22 mins despite cramping up in the last mile; Joe Cooke recorded 28:12 mins; Michael Turmeau recorded 29:00 mins; Alex Trippier recorded 25:42 mins; Jack Millar recorded 26:06 mins; and finally Josh decamps recorded 27:19 mins in his event of the year.

The senior riders taking part were Mike Coulter who recorded 28:28 mins and Darryl Nolan 30:12 mins.

Another positive for the club was that Christine White took the position of Assistant Timekeeper at the start for the first time as she progresses towards full qualificat­ion as a timekeeper.
