Late header lets Dalians pinch points

-

Ryan Horan were close seconds but we did have some key players missing today. Hopefully we will have them back for the next match.”

After a run of weeks without a game, Avenue ran out 3-1 winners against North Star in the Sun Chemical Division One to push themselves closer to promotion.

Avenue began brightly on a difficult pitch but slowly got into their rhythm however the lack of game time was beginning to show as a lot of play was lacklustre.

Avenue stepped up their game a little and within minutes had taken the lead, Lee Weatherhilt swivelled on the edge of the box and crashing a leftfoot half volley low into the North Star goal.

North Star reacted and soon found themselves level with stunning left foot volley into Avenues top corner.

In the second half North Star went more offensive in the hope of snatching a goal.

Avenue battled and Kacy Samuels found himself in the box to calmly slot home to give his side the advantage.

The three points were sealed when a quick counter attack saw Carlton Norford break free and slot home.

The man at the Avenue helm, Adam Thomas said: “It was a solid performance from my lads, we knew what we had to do and we came here and got the job done.

“The lack of games in recent weeks allowed us to be a lot more lacklustre than usual, but hopefully we can kick on from here and continue to pick up points from the final few games.

“We’re all desperate to achieve promotion and we have shown that today.

“I’m extremely proud of the lads for the spirit and fight they’ve shown especially in the second half of today’s game.”
