Daredevil gran joins family for charity skydive
THREE members of a family - including a 74-year-old grandma - are to take the plunge together and brave a charity skydive.
Linda Brewer, 74, her daughter-in-law Lisa Brewer, 48, and grandaughter Ella Brewer, 23, are to parachute from 15,000ft next month in the skies above Lancaster.
They are jumping in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association as Linda’s son-in-law Darren Haddock, of Milnrow, suffers from the illness.
Linda, a grandmother of four, of Hollingworth Lake, said: “Believe you me I would not be risking it if it was not for such a good cause.
“I am absolutely terrified.
“I am not one of those silly people that has something like this on their bucket list.
“All my friends and family think I’ve gone crazy one even offered to sponsor me £100 not to do it. But I am absolutely determined. I am not doing it for glory, I am doing it for Darren and the association.
“Motor neurone disease is an dreadful illness, but there is not a lot of publicity or awareness around it. I feel very passionately about it. It affects everyone in the family, but everyone is pulling together and their friends and family are a wonderful support.”
Lisa owns and runs La Bocca hair salon in Milnrow, where Ella also works.
In October Darren’s son Alex and his friend Tom Millington, also from Milnrow, walked through the Mont Blanc region of Switzerland, Italy and France to raise money for the MND charity.
The 18-year-olds climbed three summits in three different countries in three days and raised around £3,500.
Speaking at the time Alex said: “I can say that without a doubt, it was the best experience of my life and an opportunity to meet some great people that are doing some great work for various charities.”

The jump is scheduled to take place, weather permitting, on June 18.
