Animal Agents try to crack the case
THIS year’s Summer Reading Challenge for children aged four to 11 will be available in Rochdale libraries from July 15 throughout the school summer holidays.
The Summer Reading Challenge is a fun way to encourage children to keep reading over the holidays.
Previous challenges have engaged hundreds of children enjoying a good read and I can thoroughly recommend it to children, their parents and carers as a great way to spend summer holiday time.
Whether a child is an avid or reluctant reader, a fan of traditional print books or prefers reading digital versions on a phone or tablet, the Summer Reading Challenge is a fun and totally engaging way to discover the world of storytelling.
For many it will lead to a life enhanced by a good read and for some it may even be the first step on the road to becoming the writers of the future.
This year’s Summer Reading Challenge is based on the theme of Animal Agents, with characters designed by award-winning illustrator Tony Ross.
There’s something peculiar happening at the local library – and that’s where the Animal Agents come in!
It’s a detective agency manned by all kinds of clever animals – furry, scaly and slippery – and these guys are out to crack the case with a little help from their friends.
From solving the case of the graffiti writing, to the strange case of a missing lunch, children aged four to 11 can join in the fun with the Animal Agents by reading along.
The Summer Reading Challenge is free to join. Children just need to be members of the library (which is free to join too).
They can pop into their local library to collect their special Animal Agents-themed folder and choose any books (traditional printed, e-books, e-audiobooks or e-graphic novels) to borrow from the thousands available.
By reading and visiting the library through the holidays they’ll receive a host of stickers for their folders (some with mysterious smells), plus other goodies and will help the Animal Agents solve the mystery.
If they read any six books by the start of next term, they’ll be awarded a medal and special certificate.
