Thousands are expected to be feeling good at festival

ROCHDALE Feel Good Festival will be tickling tastebuds and filling the town with live music today (Saturday).

Thousands of revellers are expected in the town centre for the biggest event in Rochdale’s social calendar.

The party kicked off yesterday (Friday) with local acts and tribute bands and today there’s a fantastic line-up of artists playing the main stage outside the town hall, headlined by Razorlight.

Coun Janet Emsley, cabinet member for neighbourh­oods, community and culture, said: “We’ve put together a wonderful array of free entertainm­ent to attract many thousands of residents and visitors over the two days. The town has a great deal to be proud of and I urge people to show their support for the festival and our town centre by attending – and bring your friends! We have a fabulous programme of music and entertainm­ent, served up alongside a superb food and drink village, accompanie­d by lots of other attraction­s that make the festival unique.”

The music starts on the main stage from 12.30pm.

Other acts on the bill include Manchester’s Baked A La Ska, RedFaces, Pacific, The Bright Black, The Karpets fronted by Tom Hingley, Honeyfeet, the Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band, singer/songwriter Kirk McElhinney, The Delphina Kings and The Recreation.

The festival’s food and drink village will be open 11am – 11pm today with a new layout, seating area and over 20 traders selling delicious dishes, fantastic street food and much more.

Greater Manchester Police will be celebratin­g 160 years of policing in Rochdale with an indoor and outdoor exhibition at the town hall.

About 80 plucky abseilers who will be descending the town hall’s 190-ft tower to raise money for WHAG, an organisati­on which provides housing and support to victims of domestic abuse.

There will also be street theatre, arts, crafts and other entertainm­ent for families throughout the day.

The festival is funded by the council together with sponsorshi­p from The Flying Horse Hotel, Rochdale Football Club, Metrolink, O2 Rochdale, The Royal Toby, Rochdale Town Centre Management and Rochdale Sixth Form College.
