Callum Cooke. The onloan Middlesbro­ugh midfielder comes with rave reviews from Crewe Alexandra fans, who got to see him in action on loan last season. The 20-year-old will add some much-needed creativity to Pool’s midfield.

The club is celebratin­g its 130th anniversar­y this season. During that time, its most famous achievemen­t was lifting the FA Cup in the so-called Matthews Final in 1953.

Jermaine Beckford. The former Leeds and Everton front man looks as sharp as ever netting twice in as many pre-season games. The 33-year-old has an exceptiona­l goal-scoring record in League One and could be the perfect replacemen­t for James Vaughan. pushing for back to back promotions, others are doom mongers predicted a long hard season. Most are probably in between and hoping for mid-table.

Liam Mandeville. In a season where he’d been expected to be a bit part player, he scored ten goals including eight in an 11 game run. After scoring six in pre-season, he’s primed to start regularly.

Rovers have the honour of the record low points total for a single Football League season, having won 20 points during the 1997/98 campaign which saw them relegated from the League.
