PARENTS have been warned to be on guard after a man tried to ‘bundle’ a schoolgirl into a van.

Police are investigating after the 12-year-old was approached by a man in a ski hat in Rochdale on Monday afternoon.

The youngster was told to get in the man’s white Transit van.

She refused before running away. The girl later told her parents, who informed police.

Officers say the girl was approached on Crossgates Road in Milnrow at around 4.30pm.

Bosses at Oulder Hill Community School sent an email to parents warning them about the incident.

The school is around five miles from where the girl was approached.

Schools across the borough have been informed of the incident and have urged parents to be vigilant.

Oulder Hill bosses said the man, thought to be in his late 20s, had a ‘Mediterranean complexion’.

An email to parents read: “Please can you ask your child/children to be vigilant outside of school as a man tried to bundle a young girl into his white Transit van yesterday. “The man was in his late 20s, wearing a grey ski hat and had a Mediterranean complexion.”

Anyone with information about the Rochdale incident is asked to call Greater Manchester Police on 101, quoting log number 1684 of October 2.
