Zafira is a masterclass in practical motoring

-

We had a range of options that brought the price up from the base £24,895 to £26,300 on the road.

That puts it squarely in competition with the likes of the Citroen’s C4 Picasso and perhaps the Ford C-Max.

It looks better than both of those, and has more room inside - but that comes at a price, as the drive isn’t quite as nice.

It’s a little bit noisy, and the 1.4i 140PS engine seemed a touch underpowered for a workhorse like this - perhaps the two-litre diesel engine would fare better.

In contrast to the vast array of trim spec, there are only these two engines to choose from, but both come in six-speed manual, and auto varieties.

Ours was the manual version, and it returned economy figures of 48.7mpg combined (again, the diesel is better at 54.3mpg combined, which I would think makes that the better bet of the two, especially given the power considerations).

The Zafira also comes with Vauxhall’s excellent OnStar feature, which is on-board concierge service, bringing auto crash reporting and stolen vehicle assistance. It’s free for the first 12 months. It also includes a useful 4G WiFi hotspot in the car, which could be invaluable if you’ve got seven people in the car on a long journey. The 7in colour touchscreen is also Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatible.

It’s got everything you need, then, and is an appealing option for those with lots to carry, or big families.
