Lowerhouse hold on to climb table

- BEN SIMMONDS

IN the RDSFL Third Division FC Lowerhouse narrowly beat Lostock 2-1 to steer themselves nearer to the top end of the table.

Lowerhouse now sit comfortably in fifth place.

It was a game of two halves – Lowerhouse came out on top after the first, but in the second Lostock fought back to almost clinch an important point.

Paul Dixon got the opener for Lowerhouse midway through the first-half through great anticipation, following a goalkeeper error.

Lostock appeared to emerge a rejuvenated team and finally managed an equaliser in the 65th minute which appeared to transform the tempo of the game.

Both sides battled hard to get ahead, adopting a frantic tempo which made for a thrilling final 25 minutes.

Lowerhouse were able to maintain this tempo for the whole of the final period, which led to Paul Simpson clinching a 90th minute winner, to ensure their first league win of the new season.

Dave Buckley, Lowerhouse’s manager, said: “We got a well-deserved three points today – we had to fight hard for the win.”

As it stands elsewhere, Middleton Town remain top of the Newbold Tyres Premier Division following a 10-2 win over Coppice United.

While Wardle are level with them on points only behind on goal difference.

In the Sun Chemical Division One, Wardleworth also managed to maintain their top-spot position with a 2-0 win over Avenue.

However, Chadderton remain only three points behind them, having recorded a 4-3 win over stiff opposition in Free Trade Tavern.

At the opposite end of the table Cartshaft did manage to record a 3-2 win over Oldham GPO to move out of the bottom four.
