AMETAL fabrication company which supplies several Premier League football clubs has moved into bigger premises as part of its goal to expand.

Metacol has moved from a unit of just 590sq ft in the Fieldhouse Industrial Estate to a unit more than five times the size on the same estate as business has grown.

The company supplies shop equipment, such as brackets and railings, to football club shops, including Manchester United and Manchester City, as well as the NFL store in London. Closer to home, it created the Co-op van display on the recently re-opened Rochdale bridge. It also supplies furniture parts to restaurants, including national chain Marston Lodges and Wagamama, as well as security products.

Managing director Jon Collinson started looking for new premises after investing £20,000 in a powder coating machine, so he can finish his products in-house without having to use a separate powder coating company.

He said: “We’d outgrown our old space in no time, but I wanted to stay in Rochdale, so finding a new unit on the same estate was ideal. We’ve got a great business commu- nity here and I’ll be taking advantage of the free support that’s available through the council’s business growth hub advisor to help me with my marketing and sales strategies.

“We can turn around orders much more quickly now we’ve got the new powder coating plant, so the work is stacking up. I employ three people and am now on the lookout for a possible supervisor to add to our skilled team. It’s great to be bringing part of our manufacturing process back into Rochdale borough.”

Council leader Richard Farnell said: “It’s great to see company owners like Jon staying in the borough as they invest in their business and expand.

“By making a simple change to bring part of his production back in house, he has boosted his business and opened the door to potential new jobs for Rochdale residents. It’s this kind of innovation that helps makes our borough a great place to do business.”
