Kolbuck and Konrad help make point

-

AN intelligent away day performance from Littleborough 2s saw them take the share of the spoils at a blustery Round Ash Park in Leigh.

Against the wind and uphill, the visitors Littleborough dominated the opening stages of the game and were unlucky not to be ahead as prop Murphy Holt was twice held up over the line.

However, the green, black and yellow were not to be denied as scrum half Christopher Kolbuck capitalised on first good work from the visiting scrum to drive Leigh backwards and tie the back row, as well as secondly on the space left by the Leigh back row to slide in next to the posts.

Anything that Kolbuck can do, Konrad Hill can replicate as he doubled Littleborough’s lead with a scything run on the outside arch in the midfield.

Both teams would cancel each other out for the rest of the first half and the majority of the second half where it lead to a tense and exciting finish.

Littleborough seeking their second victory on the road, used all their experience and guise to clear their lines and use the wind to make Leigh have to play from their own 22, eventually strangling a penalty in front of the posts for the Leigh prop going in off his feet at the breakdown.

Hill took the score beyond two scores and give them an unassailable 15-point lead.

Boro’s defence proved a very difficult obstacle to break through.

Brook Reader, Jack Wilson, Paul Fino and Stuart Irving all to name a few who made crunching tackles to stop the home side in the their tracks

Littleborough tiredness and illdisciple gave Leigh once last chance to move from the Leigh’s 22 to Boro’s own 22 territory and Leigh couldn’t break through, a number of indistrections from the visitors made the referee award a penalty try.

Despite the last minute blip, Littleborough can be proud of the way in which they played particularly attacking wise in the first half and certainly defensively in the second half.
