Highfield make own cup history

HIGHFIELD successful­ly secured their place in the LFA Sunday Trophy Quarter Final with a 2-0 win over Shawdale.

It is the first time in the club’s 26-year history that they have made it to the semifinals of the trophy.

Matty Knowles scored the opener for the home side before Lewis Altimas rounded off a solid win.

Highfield’s manager Wayne Whitlow said: “The referee and their manager both gave the man of the match award to my centrehalf Jake McKeown he was making his full debut today.”

The Newbold Premier Division side now look forward to their next league fixture which pitches them against Limeside King George.

Limeside’s 6-2 win against Coppice this weekend also holds them in good stead into next week’s fixture.

Elsewhere Old Loom were unable to claw back from a 2-1 deficit against Rochdalian­s, despite the encounter going down to the wire.

Wardle’s 6-1 rampage over Elton and Walshaw, sees them remain firm leaders at the top of the division with second placed Littleboro­ugh sat two points behind them.

Chadderton’s 4-3 win over Cartshaft has ensured their top-spot in the Sun Chemical Division One for another week as they sit three points clear at the top of the pile.

Despite falling short Cartshaft still sit firmly in second place, five points clear of any competitio­n.

Meanwhile, Avenue bounced back to form with a 2-1 win over AFC Kearsley.

The win was their first of the new campaign and has now moved them off the bottom spot.

MPG and Free Trade Tavern also secured solid wins in the division.

In the Sun Chemicals Division Two only one fixture was played and it pitched Warmersley Conservati­ve Club against Catholic Club.

The match ended 3-1 win Warmersley CC’s favour, making them leaders of the division for the first time this season.

Warmersley will next face Sportsmans, who currently in hot pursuit of the league leaders as they sit comfortabl­y in second place.

Littleboro­ugh CCFC managed to keep distance between them and Donkey FC in the Third Division, with a 4-3 win over Royal Oak.

Donkey also secured a valuable 5-1 win against High Crompton Victoria, but still have a three-point deficit behind Littleboro­ugh despite having a game in hand.

At the other end of the table Jockey managed their second win of the season, beating AFC Swan 4-2. Newbold Tyres Premier Division
